Emoticons

two channel videoinstallation

2008

two cathode ray TV´s, mediaplayer, flyer

1:30 min. loop, standard definition PAL, 4:3

A dialogue going on through Emoticons (smileys and abbrevations) alternates between two opposite monitors. Obviously recognizable but still incomprehensible. The language of emoticons grew to be quite common amongst all of us, but actually seems like a proper foreign language after just a few years of consistent further development.

The corresponding leaflet translates some of the most important smileys, therefore making it possible for the viewer to actually follow the dialogue on the screens after shortly studying those vocabularies.
